How To Defeat Zhang Jiao In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Conquering Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turbans, is one of the first major hurdles in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. This guide will walk you through his two-phase battle.

Conquering Zhang Jiao: Phase 1

Phase one is a one-on-one duel in a vast wasteland. Zhang Jiao wields sorcery, launching stone attacks. His tactics vary with your distance. Up close, he hurls four stones; evade quickly. From afar, he unleashes eight stones in pairs – simply circle him to dodge. If you're close when he summons many stones, create distance immediately to avoid heavy damage.

While his attacks primarily keep you at bay, he also employs close-range combos (easily parried) and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback attack. A glowing white aura signals his AOE attack; maintain distance. Later, he’ll use red-aura attacks (uncancellable), summoning a rock barrage or clones. The best strategy? Retreat and wait for the attacks to conclude.

For optimal damage, equip a sword. Manage your health carefully; you likely have only four heals depending on skill upgrades. Conveniently, meat buns replenish your health; utilize the jars near the arena entrance for healing opportunities.

Conquering Zhang Jiao: Phase 2

Unlocking Musou Rage triggers phase two. Now, the Yellow Turbans join Zhang Jiao, but thankfully, your army arrives to assist. This is your best chance to heal using the meat buns. Zhang Jiao introduces tornadoes that disrupt your position, so be mindful of the wind while eliminating his soldiers.

Zhang Jiao will attempt a Grand Tactic, demanding you defeat 300 soldiers within minutes to avoid a devastating attack. Simultaneously, he unleashes lightning strikes; watch for the closing ring and evade when it flashes. Musou Mode (or basic Musou, given time constraints) is highly effective for quickly eliminating the Yellow Turbans.

Foil his Grand Tactic twice, and Zhang Jiao returns with phase one tactics. However, with your army’s support, defeating him should be relatively straightforward. This concludes Chapter 1.

Master Zhang Jiao and conquer *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
