Hideo Kojima took the stage at SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX, to unveil an exciting new trailer for "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach," along with the confirmation of its release date. The highly anticipated sequel is set to launch on June 26, 2025, exclusively for the PlayStation 5. Fans eager to dive in early can do so by purchasing the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Collector’s Edition, which offer two days of early access starting from June 24.
The trailer, which spans 10 minutes, showcases a mix of cinematics and gameplay clips. One of the standout features is the introduction of a character named Neil, portrayed by Italian actor Luca Marinelli. Neil bears a striking resemblance to Snake from Kojima's renowned Metal Gear series, notably seen donning a bandana and leading a squad of eerie soldiers. Neil appears to be a soldier figure, equipped with an assault rifle.
The trailer further enhances the Metal Gear connection with the introduction of the Magellan Man, a colossal tar-like entity merged with the DHV Magellan, reminiscent of Metal Gear Rex. The Magellan Man is operated in a style similar to a Pacific Rim mech and engages in battles against massive, haunting tar monsters. Notably, the Collector's Edition includes a 15" statue of the Magellan Man.
Pricing for "Death Stranding 2" includes the standard edition at $69.99, the Collector's Edition at $229.99, and the Digital Deluxe Edition at $79.99. Pre-orders will open on March 17.
Continuing the narrative from the 2019 original, "Death Stranding 2" poses the thought-provoking question, "Should We Have Connected?" The official synopsis reads:

Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected?
