"Cosmo Jarvis Confirmed for Shogun Season 2, Set Decade Later"

By AnthonyMay 17,2025

The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept up 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a highly anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrays the pilot John Blackthorn, will reprise his role and also step into the role of co-executive producer for Season 2.

Lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga and signed on for the second season last May following the show's renewal from its initial limited series format, has been promoted to executive producer. This comes after his involvement in producing the first season. Production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, where the original series was filmed.

PlayFX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter" that builds on the first season, which was adapted from James Clavell's novel. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons:

"In Season 1, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) faced a fight for survival as his adversaries within the Council of Regents rallied against him. The arrival of a stranded European ship and its English pilot, John Blackthorne (Jarvis), provided Toranaga with crucial strategic insights that shifted the balance of power, ultimately leading to his victory in a pivotal civil war.

"Season 2, set a decade later, continues the saga of these two men from vastly different backgrounds whose destinies remain deeply interwoven."

Fans of the series can look forward to new episodes potentially arriving by the end of 2026, although for now, anticipation and patience are the order of the day.
