CD Projekt Red: Ciri as the protagonist of The Witcher 4 is “organic and logical”

CD Projekt Red has confirmed Ciri will take center stage in The Witcher 4, a decision driven by both narrative progression and the source material. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, leaving Ciri, a character with immense potential, ready to step into the spotlight. Her rich history, deeply explored in both the books and games, offers a wealth of creative opportunities for the developers.

Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's age as a key factor, allowing for greater player agency in shaping her character arc—a freedom not afforded with the established Geralt. The shift, interestingly, was first discussed nearly a decade ago, solidifying Ciri's position as the natural successor. Kalemba further emphasizes that Ciri's new challenges and perspectives will forge an equally compelling narrative.

Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt, voiced his support for the decision, acknowledging Ciri's considerable potential. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, allowing Ciri's story to take precedence and offering a fresh perspective on the beloved franchise.
