The highly anticipated reboot of The Chronicles of Narnia, led by acclaimed filmmaker Greta Gerwig (Barbie), has welcomed another notable addition to its growing ensemble cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan is joining the project alongside former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and legendary actress Meryl Streep.
Gerwig, who is penning and directing this fresh interpretation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy series, aims to bring a new perspective to the timeless tales. This latest installment will adapt The Magician's Nephew, the prequel novel that unfolds before the events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the most iconic entry in the franchise.
Carey Mulligan is slated to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the series' young protagonist, Digory. Meanwhile, Daniel Craig will embody the enigmatic magician at the heart of the story and Digory's uncle. Emma Mackey will play a youthful version of the White Witch, while Meryl Streep lends her voice to Aslan, the majestic and divine talking lion central to the series.
This isn’t the first time Narnia has graced the silver screen. Between 2005 and 2010, a trilogy based on the initial three novels featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan.
Gerwig's upcoming project marks her return to filmmaking following the global success of Barbie. That film, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, received eight Oscar nominations and won for Best Original Song.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is currently scheduled for release in 2026.
