Capcom's Past IP Revivals Will Continue

In a recent press release dated December 13, Capcom unveiled their plans to breathe new life into past IPs, starting with the announcement of new Onimusha and Okami games. The company is committed to delivering high-quality content for their loyal fanbase.

The upcoming Onimusha game is set to launch in 2026 and will be situated during the Edo period in Kyoto. Meanwhile, a sequel for Okami is also in the works, though its release date remains undisclosed. This project will see collaboration with the original game's directors and development team, ensuring a faithful yet fresh experience.

Capcom stated, "Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently. The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, which includes reviving past IPs like the two titles announced above, in order to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles."

Alongside these revivals, Capcom is not neglecting new projects. They are currently developing Monster Hunter Wilds and Capcom Fighting Collection 2, both scheduled for a 2025 release. Recent releases include Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and Exoprimal, showcasing Capcom's dedication to both new and classic IPs.

Capcom’s Super Elections Might Reveal Future Titles

In February 2024, Capcom held a "Super Election" allowing players to vote for their favorite characters and desired sequels. The results highlighted strong interest in series like Dino Crisis, Darkstalkers, Onimusha, and Breath of Fire.

Dino Crisis and Darkstalkers have been largely inactive since their last releases in 1997 and 2003, respectively. Breath of Fire 6, an online RPG, launched in July 2016 but ceased operations by September 2017. These franchises have been dormant for years, making them prime candidates for a revival or remaster.

Although Capcom has not explicitly disclosed their plans for other series, the "Super Elections" provide a clear indication of fan interest. With Onimusha and Okami already in development, it's possible that other fan-favorite IPs could soon follow suit.
