Beginner's Guide to Fishing with Rune Slayer

By AlexanderApr 09,2025

If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* isn't an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing convince you otherwise. And while we're half-joking about the fishing criteria, we're here to guide you through the fishing mechanics in *Rune Slayer*. It's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*, but we've got you covered on how to reel in those aquatic treasures.

Before You Catch Fish in Rune Slayer

Before you embark on your fishing journey, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**, the white-haired NPC you'll find at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon's task for you is to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box. Notice the quotation marks? We'll get to that soon.

Here's where it gets interesting: **to catch fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait or tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman has these essentials for sale.

**Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While most players suggest having at least 5 worms, we recommend buying 10 to be on the safe side. And before you wonder, **no, you don't equip the bait**. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory; they're used automatically when you fish. Each time you catch something, a Worm is removed from your inventory.

Here's the catch: **you won't be able to catch anything unless you have at least 5 bait items**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. It was only after we had 5 Worms that we started catching fish. We suggest placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep an eye on your supply. Once you've got everything, you're ready to move on to the next step.

First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it traditionally, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will ready it.

**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**—the pier next to Simon the Fisherman works great.

Now, **keep an eye on the bobber**. When it makes one or two ripples, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. That's the basic process.

However, **this method isn't foolproof**. More often than not, you might not catch anything at all. Sometimes, you'll pull up junk, but the good news is **Simon counts junk as a "catch"**—hence the earlier quotation marks around "fish".

To complete the quest, **cast your line, wait for the ripples, and reel in anything five times**. We managed to catch only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.

**Once you've caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll give you a Tackle Box, which you can open and store your remaining Worms in, freeing up your inventory space for other items.

That's the rundown on fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your time casting lines and reeling in catches. For more tips and tricks, don't forget to check out our **The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
