Application Description

High-Quality USB Camera Viewer & HDMI Display

Transform your device into a versatile portable display for your Camera, Gaming Console, Laptop, PC, or other devices equipped with HDMI output. To do this, you'll need an HDMI to USB C dongle, specifically a UVC capture device or Video Capture Card. Note that this is different from a USB C hub or a USB C to HDMI cable. Additionally, cameras, endoscopes, and microscopes that support USB streaming can also be used with Noir.

Noir facilitates UVC video streaming and UAC audio streaming, allowing you to choose between OpenGL ES and Vulkan as your graphics backend. The free version provides essential functions and an immersive experience, though it includes ads (ads are not displayed during the preview). For an ad-free experience and access to more advanced features, consider purchasing the pro version, which also supports ongoing development and maintenance of Noir.

FAQ

  1. Why doesn't Noir recognize my device?
Possible reasons include your phone or tablet not supporting USB Host (OTG) or the device not being a Video Capture Card. In some cases, additional power might be required, which can be supplied via a USB hub.
  2. Why is the preview so laggy?
Laggy previews are often due to the USB version. Ensure you use a USB 3.0 capture card with a compatible USB 3.0 cable and port. For USB 2.0 capture cards, use MJPEG format and keep within 1080p30fps specifications.
  3. Why did my capture card, which was working fine, suddenly fail to connect?
This could be due to system issues. A simple restart of your phone or tablet might resolve the issue.
  4. Why does my gaming console or Video playback device show a black screen when connected?
This is commonly seen with PS5 and PS4 due to HDCP being enabled. Disable HDCP through your PS console settings: Settings -> System -> HDMI, and turn off Enable HDCP. Note that PS3 does not support this. Other devices might also automatically enable HDCP, leading to a black screen. Some HDMI splitters can bypass HDCP, but this isn't recommended here.
  5. Why are resolutions other than 16:9 and 4:3 not supported?
Capture cards typically do not support ratios beyond these. You can use Noir's Stretch feature to specify desired ratios, provided your capture card's EDID supports it and you set your laptop or computer's output to that ratio.
