Warner Bros.' MultiVersus Faces Closure After Season 5

By SadieFeb 20,2025

Player First Games has announced the upcoming closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, with Season 5 marking its final chapter. The game, launched May 28, 2024, will conclude its online services on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This decision was revealed via a blog post on the studio's website.

Season 5, commencing February 4, 2025, will be the game's last hurrah. While online play will cease on the termination date, Player First Games assures players that all earned and purchased content will remain accessible offline through local and training modes.

The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support in a statement: “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Real-money transactions have already ended, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used to acquire in-game content until the May 30th shutdown. The game will also be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.

This closure follows reports of MultiVersus' underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million writedown for the company's games sector. This financial setback, coupled with the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad, paints a challenging picture for the company's gaming division.

Despite the game's imminent closure, Season 5 promises a final burst of activity. Alongside standard seasonal content, new playable characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman will be introduced. Lola Bunny will be unlockable via a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, both launching next week.
