New World of Warcraft Video Explains Feast of Winter Veil Lore

World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration

The annual Feast of Winter Veil in World of Warcraft mirrors our real-world Christmas celebrations, offering players unique rewards and new additions each year. A recent lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the rich history of this beloved in-game event.

This captivating video explores the holiday's origins, weaving together Dwarven myths about Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant leaving snowy trails—and Tauren traditions emphasizing spiritual reflection, renewal, and gratitude towards the Earthmother. The video also highlights the rise of Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise that has commercialized Winter Veil, drawing parallels to real-life Christmas traditions.

Metzen the Reindeer's Misadventures:

No exploration of Winter Veil lore is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has endured three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the modern game. The video concludes with a humorous nod to this, featuring Metzen expressing gratitude in Thrall's voice (fittingly, as Metzen voiced Thrall).

A Successful Collaboration:

This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge for Wrath of the Lich King Classic, as well as content on World Trees, Blackrock Depths, and seasonal events. Blizzard's recent partnerships with various content creators, including Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, demonstrate a commitment to enriching the WoW experience.

Join the Festivities!

Players can still partake in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5th, 2024. This year's highlights include the taming of the Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters and new holiday transmogs and the Grunch pet for all players. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift—perhaps a surprise like last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy!
