Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Arrives on Steam This Winter
Virtua Fighter's Steam Debut
SEGA brings the iconic Virtua Fighter franchise to Steam for the very first time with Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. This latest remaster builds upon the 18-year legacy of Virtua Fighter 5, marking the fifth major iteration of the game. While the exact release date remains undisclosed, SEGA confirms a winter launch.
SEGA positions Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. as the definitive remaster of this 3D fighting classic. Key features include rollback netcode for smooth online play, stunning 4K visuals with updated high-resolution textures, and a boosted 60fps framerate for incredibly fluid gameplay.
Classic game modes like Rank Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus return, alongside exciting additions. Players can now organize custom online tournaments and leagues (up to 16 players), and a new Spectator Mode lets players observe matches and learn new techniques.
The YouTube trailer has generated overwhelmingly positive feedback, with fans expressing excitement for this latest version, even for those who own previous iterations. While many celebrate the PC release, the call for Virtua Fighter 6 persists.
Initially Mistaken for Virtua Fighter 6
Following an earlier interview with VGC, many anticipated the announcement of Virtua Fighter 6. SEGA's Justin Scarpone hinted at a new Virtua Fighter title in development. However, the November 22nd Steam release of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., boasting enhanced graphics, new modes, and rollback netcode, surprised many.
A Classic Fighting Game Returns
Virtua Fighter 5 initially launched on SEGA's Lindbergh arcade system in July 2006, later making its way to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007. The game's storyline revolves around the Fifth World Fighting Tournament. While the original featured 17 fighters, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. expands the roster to 19 playable characters.
Several iterations followed the initial release, each improving upon the original:
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R (2008) ⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (2010) ⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (2021) ⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O (2024)
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.’s updated visuals and modern features make it a highly anticipated release for fans of the series.
