Ubisoft Unveils Skull and Bones Year 2: Land Combat Added This Fall

By SadieMay 25,2025

Ubisoft is setting sail for an expansive Year 2 for Skull and Bones, aiming to make it the most thrilling chapter yet for this pirate multiplayer game. With a treasure trove of new content on the horizon, including new game modes, ships, the mythical Kraken, and the much-anticipated land combat, fans have plenty to be excited about.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled their ambitious roadmap for the upcoming year. The spotlight, however, was on Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, which will introduce the long-awaited land combat feature. Players will finally be able to step off their ships and engage in swordfights and gun battles on terra firma, expanding the gameplay beyond the high seas. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video provided a glimpse into this new gameplay element, but fans will have to wait until later this year for the full experience.

While land combat is the highlight of Year 2, Ubisoft has more in store to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1, titled Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, introducing a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Following that, Season 2: Oaths of War, scheduled for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships into the fray. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, set to debut this winter, will unleash the Kraken, introduce the Hunter’s Guild, and add the Corvette large ship to the game.

If you're intrigued by what's on offer, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 – 21. This is the perfect opportunity to dive into the pirate PvP action and decide if you want to purchase the game at a yet-to-be-announced discounted price.

Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. Although Ubisoft hasn't disclosed official sales figures, they did report "record player engagement" shortly after launch. Interestingly, the release of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
