Transformers: Reactivate Officially Cancelled by Splash Damage

Splash Damage has announced the cancellation of its highly anticipated Transformers game, Transformers: Reactivate, after a prolonged and challenging development cycle. Revealed at The Game Awards 2022, Reactivate was envisioned as a 1-4 player online experience pitting Autobots and Decepticons against a new alien threat. The project, however, remained largely shrouded in mystery following its initial announcement, with only a few leaks and early toy releases offering glimpses of potential gameplay featuring characters like Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, and Soundwave. Rumors of Beast Wars characters' inclusion also circulated, but ultimately remain unfulfilled.

The cancellation, confirmed via a Splash Damage Twitter statement, was described as a difficult decision. Unfortunately, the studio anticipates potential staff redundancies as it redirects its focus to other projects. The developer expressed gratitude to the Reactivate team and Hasbro for their contributions and support.

Fan reaction has been mixed, with some expressing disappointment while others had predicted the cancellation given the lack of updates since the 2022 trailer.

Shifting Focus to "Project Astrid"

Splash Damage's future lies with "Project Astrid," a AAA open-world survival game built using Unreal Engine 5, announced in March 2023 and developed in collaboration with streamers Shroud and Sacriel. The studio will now dedicate its resources to this new project, though the cancellation of Transformers: Reactivate will unfortunately result in layoffs. The news leaves Transformers fans awaiting a new high-quality game featuring the iconic robots.

In short: Transformers: Reactivate is cancelled, leading to potential layoffs at Splash Damage. The studio is now fully committed to its open-world survival title, "Project Astrid."
