The original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater launched on September 29, 1999, and the series has enjoyed immense success over the years. The 2020 release of the remastered Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 (THPS 1+2) reignited interest in the franchise. While plans for remasters of THPS 3 and 4 were previously discussed, the closure of Vicarious Visions stalled that project.
