The expansion also includes two new characters and four new train tokens, making it a perfect holiday treat for Ticket to Ride enthusiasts. Developer Marmalade aimed to deliver a festive update, adding not only new locations but also fresh gameplay mechanics. These country and city-to-country route options demand a revised strategic approach to building a successful railroad network. Country-to-country tickets challenge players to connect specific countries, offering multiple choices and varying point values. For example, connecting France could lead to Germany, Italy, or Austria, each rewarding a different point total upon completion. Similarly, city-to-country tickets require linking a city to a designated country. Each country has a limited number of connection points, encouraging players to plan carefully and secure the most valuable routes.
Points are awarded based on the highest-scoring completed connection for each ticket. Conversely, failing to complete a connection results in a point deduction based on the ticket's lowest value.
