Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Still in Development, Developer Confirms

By MatthewJan 06,2026

Saber Interactive has confirmed that all its previously announced games remain in development despite prolonged silence on high-profile projects like the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake.

Following the reveal of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, Saber's Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits took to Twitter to reassure fans that all announced projects are progressing.

"Saber Interactive ranks among the world's largest independent developers," Willits stated. "We're currently developing multiple titles across diverse genres. Every project we've mentioned remains actively in production. We'll share updates when we've got exciting developments to showcase."

The most anticipated subject of Willits' comments is undoubtedly the KOTOR remake, which has become one of gaming's most mysterious projects. First announced in 2021, this eagerly awaited remake has changed development teams multiple times, experienced apparent halts and restarts, and remains unseen four years later.

Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch confirmed in April 2024 that the studio retained KOTOR during its separation from Embracer Group, emphasizing continued active development.

"Our involvement is evident," Karch said at the time. "This has been widely reported. What I can confirm is the project is advancing well, and we're committed to surpassing fan expectations."

Willits' recent statement reinforces Karch's earlier assurances. Yet despite these confirmations, the gaming community has seen nothing beyond the project's initial announcement trailer.

Saber's portfolio includes several upcoming titles scheduled for release this year. While John Carpenter's Toxic Commando and Jurassic Park Survival maintain their 2025 launch windows, neither has secured a specific date. The studio is also developing fresh entries in the Turok franchise and an undisclosed Avatar: The Last Airbender project.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 now joins Saber's growing lineup. For more details, explore IGN's analysis of potential Space Marine 3 chapters and enemy factions.
