Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has confirmed that production on the highly anticipated sequel, Beyond the Spider-Verse, hasn't even begun. He revealed in an interview with Decider that he hasn't yet recorded any lines, and that several aspects of the film are still "being figured out."
This news shouldn't come as a complete surprise, given the five-year gap between the first and second films. When asked about the production status, Jerome stated, "No, I wish. We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in Across the Spider-Verse was relatively small, his character is poised to become a major antagonist in Beyond the Spider-Verse. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse! He plays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, a version of Miles who emerges at the film's climax not as Spider-Man, but as the Prowler.
In this alternate reality, the radioactive spider bite intended for Miles instead bit Peter Parker, resulting in a drastically different outcome. With Peter Parker deceased, this universe's New York fell under the control of supervillains, and Miles G. Morales ultimately joined their ranks.
The narrative conflict between this villainous Miles and the main protagonist Miles will likely form the core of Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans should prepare for a considerable wait; Deadline suggests a release date no earlier than 2026, while maintaining the previous film's release schedule would push it to 2028.
