Sphere Defense, a fresh take on the tower defense genre, has arrived on Android, courtesy of Tomnoki Studio. This game pays homage to the iconic geoDefense by David Whatley, which captivated players over a decade ago. The developer, a fan of geoDefense, was inspired by its elegantly simple yet challenging gameplay.
What’s the Premise?
The core concept of Sphere Defense revolves around a dire scenario where Earth, or 'The Sphere,' is teetering on the edge of annihilation by invaders. Humanity has been forced underground, hastily developing new technologies in a desperate bid to fight back. After enduring years of oppression, the underground dwellers have finally amassed enough firepower to launch a counterattack. As the player, you lead this resistance to save the planet.
In terms of gameplay, Sphere Defense delivers a classic tower defense experience. You strategically place various units, each with unique abilities, to repel waves of enemies. As you accumulate kills, you earn resources to either expand your defenses or upgrade your units. Higher difficulty levels demand more strategic planning.
The game offers three difficulty levels: easy, normal, and hard. Each level contains 10 stages, with each stage lasting between 5 to 15 minutes. To get a better feel for the game, take a look at the gameplay video below!
Set Up Turrets to Mow Your Enemies Down
Sphere Defense features seven types of units that you can strategically combine to withstand the onslaught. The attack units include the Standard Attack Turret for targeting individual enemies, the Area Attack Turret for dealing with groups, and the Piercing Attack Turret for penetrating lines of foes.
Support units enhance your defenses with the Cooling Turret and the Incendiary Turret, boosting the effectiveness of your attack units. Additionally, there are support attack units like the Fixed-Point Attack Unit for targeted missile strikes and the Linear Attack Unit for delivering devastating satellite laser attacks.
