The viral Skibidi Toilet phenomenon recently caused a bizarre DMCA kerfuffle involving the popular sandbox game Garry's Mod. Fortunately, the situation appears resolved, according to game developer Garry Newman.
Who Issued the DMCA Notice? Still a Mystery
While Garry Newman confirmed receiving a DMCA takedown notice late last year from parties claiming ownership of Skibidi Toilet copyrights, the precise source remains unconfirmed. It's unclear whether it originated from DaFuqBoom or Invisible Narratives.
Newman, in a Discord post expressing disbelief ("Can you believe the cheek?"), initially found himself at the center of a viral controversy. He later confirmed to IGN that the issue is now resolved, although the identity of the sender remains undisclosed.
The DMCA targeted user-created Garry's Mod content featuring Skibidi Toilet characters like Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, and Titan TV Man. The sender claimed these characters are copyrighted and that the unauthorized Garry's Mod creations generate substantial revenue. The game, Garry's Mod, itself was released by Valve in 2006.
