Hollow Knight: Silksong Release Triggers Eight Game Delays and More Expected
Indie Developers Step Aside as Silksong Approaches

With Hollow Knight: Silksong finally arriving on September 4, 2025, excitement is building among fans. However, this highly anticipated metroidvania's launch has led several indie studios to reschedule their own releases, hoping to avoid being overshadowed by Team Cherry's sequel.
The trend began immediately when Aeternum Game Studios revealed that Aeterna Lucis would be pushed to 2026, just hours after Silksong's date was announced. The developers expressed gratitude to Team Cherry for rejuvenating the genre but clarified that Silksong wasn't the sole factor in their decision. Rather than competing directly, they're using the extra time to enhance the game, fix bugs, and synchronize the release across next-generation consoles.
That same week, CloverPit, Faeland, Stomp and the Sword of Miracles, and Demonschool all followed with similar announcements, each citing Silksong's imminent arrival as a reason for postponement.

Frogteam Games, the makers of Stomp and the Sword of Miracles, compared their situation to "tiny krill avoiding a massive blue whale." Ysbyrd Games, the team behind Demonschool, described releasing alongside Silksong as "swimming in dangerous, shark-infested waters." Panik Arcade's announcement was more succinct, simply stating: "We have to delay CloverPit a bit (Silksong lol)!"
Faeland and Stomp and the Sword of Miracles have not set new release dates yet. CloverPit and Demonschool are currently scheduled for September 26 and November 19, respectively.

Three more games joined the list of delays this week. Little Witch in Woods, Megabonk, and Baby Steps have rescheduled their early September launches for the 15th, 18th, and 23rd of the month.
Interestingly, Baby Steps announced its delay by sharing gameplay footage featuring a level inspired by Hornet, Silksong's protagonist. Fans are now advocating for this homage to stay in the final version as an easter egg.
Silksong Hype Reaches Fever Pitch

What began as Hollow Knight DLC in 2014 evolved into a standalone sequel announced in 2019. Despite years of limited updates, anticipation has only grown. Currently, Silksong holds the record for the most wishlisted game in Steam's history, with around 5.2 million followers tracking its progress. The original Hollow Knight recently doubled its all-time player record on Steam with 45,595 concurrent users.
Following the surprise announcement just two weeks before launch, excitement skyrocketed, leading many developers to adjust their schedules to avoid clashing with this long-awaited release.
Hollow Knight: Silksong launches on September 4, 2025, for PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. For more updates, see our related coverage below.
