Rockstar's recently released Enhanced Edition of Grand Theft Auto V is receiving an underwhelming response on Steam since its launch earlier in March.
Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, launched on March 4th, has garnered a 'Mixed' user review rating on Steam, with only 54% of 19,772 reviews rated as positive.
For comparison, the original GTA V on Steam—which has now been delisted at Rockstar's request and no longer appears in search results on Valve's platform—maintains a 'Very Positive' user review rating.
In fact, GTA V Enhanced is currently the lowest-rated Grand Theft Auto title on Steam. Its nearest competitor for this undesirable distinction is Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition, which holds a 66% positive review score.
GTA V Enhanced is a complimentary upgrade for existing PC owners of GTA V. It incorporates highly requested features previously exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA Online. These include the latest vehicles and performance enhancements from Hao's Special Works, wildlife encounters, access to GTA+ Membership purchases, alongside improved graphics settings and faster load times. All current PC owners can upgrade at no cost, with the option to transfer both Story Mode and Online gameplay progress.

While this process sounds straightforward, many players are reporting issues with account migration functionality. In fact, migration problems form the core complaint in most of the top-rated negative reviews.
“'The GTA Online profile linked to this Rockstar Games account is currently ineligible for migration',” one frustrated player stated. “If you expect me to abandon nearly 700 hours of character progress just so you can squeeze more money out of me, you're sorely mistaken.”
“This version is objectively inferior to the legacy release. I'm ignoring this update entirely and sticking with the original until the next installment arrives when I'm in my sixties.”
Another reviewer explained, “My negative rating stems primarily from Rockstar arbitrarily blocking certain accounts from migration. Support offers no assistance, claiming they can't resolve the issue.”
"I can't migrate either of my two accounts," wrote another dissatisfied user. "Rockstar Support is completely ineffective. After a decade with this game, I refuse to restart all my Online progress for marginally improved visuals and minor additions like HSW upgrades."
Despite these complaints, GTA V Enhanced remains among Steam's most active titles, peaking at 187,059 concurrent players since release. However, it has raised concerns regarding the anticipated PC launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. Some PC gamers worry that Rockstar's handling of the Enhanced Edition may foreshadow similar issues for GTA VI's release.
GTA VI is scheduled for a Fall 2025 release exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, leaving PC players waiting. In December 2023, a former Rockstar developer attempted to clarify why the PC version follows console releases and asked PC gamers to extend the studio some understanding regarding its contentious launch strategy.
For more GTA VI coverage, read Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's comments regarding concerns about GTA Online's future post-launch. Separately, Take-Two has filed a lawsuit against PlayerAuctions, claiming the marketplace hosts "thousands of listings for unauthorized GTA V content—including heavily modified accounts, in-game assets, and virtual currency—all obtained through hacking, cheating, and exploitation."
In other news, Rockstar recently acquired Video Games Deluxe, the studio behind Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, rebranding it as Rockstar Australia.
