The co-op horror game *R.E.P.O.*, which launched in February and has attracted over 200,000 players on PC, raises the question: Will it make its way to consoles? Here’s what you need to know.
Is R.E.P.O. Coming to Consoles?
Currently, *R.E.P.O.* is not slated for a console release and may well remain exclusive to PC. The game's developer, semiwork, has not announced any plans to port the game to consoles. Instead, they are focusing on refining the game's multiplayer features, which have encountered some challenges.
One major hurdle they face is improving the multiplayer mechanics while preventing the game from becoming a playground for cheaters. According to semiwork, "The main issue with matchmaking lobbies is hackers. But the issue with an anti-cheat system is that you’re ruining the experience for everyone who has made mods, because mods don’t work with an anti-cheat system. And we don’t want that" (via PCGamer). This issue must be resolved before any consideration of a console port can be entertained.
While some PC-exclusive games like *Mouthwashing* have transitioned to consoles, it's noteworthy that *Mouthwashing* is a single-player game, making the transition less complex. Similarly, games like *Lethal Company* and *Content Warning*, which share a similar theme of evading monsters, have also stayed PC-only. Last year, the developers of *Content Warning* mentioned considering a console version but cited technical difficulties as a barrier. Since then, no further updates on a console release have surfaced.
So, to answer the question about whether *R.E.P.O.* will come to consoles, the developer has shown no interest in doing so and is instead prioritizing the enhancement of the PC version's multiplayer experience.
