Pre-Orders Now Open for GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080

By AlexisFeb 25,2025

The highly anticipated Nvidia GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards are now available for preorder, starting at 6 AM PT on January 30th. Leading the charge are the top-tier RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, with the mid-range RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti following in February.

Be warned: Launch-day stock is expected to vanish rapidly. Retailers have already cautioned about limited inventory, and past Nvidia launches have been plagued by bots snapping up cards for resale at inflated prices. If you're prepared to buy and lucky enough to find one, act swiftly. Pre-built PCs featuring the RTX 5090 might offer better availability, albeit at a premium.

Pricing and Where to Preorder:

January's launch includes only the RTX 5090 and 5080. Nvidia's announced pricing for all four models is:

  • RTX 5090 - $1,999
  • RTX 5080 - $999
  • RTX 5070 Ti - $749
  • RTX 5070 - $549

To maximize your chances, check each retailer listed above. Even if a card shows as in stock, the high demand means it could sell out quickly.

Despite its power, the RTX 5090 FE boasts a slim 2-slot cooling solution, smaller than the 4090.

Retailer Breakdown:

  • Best Buy: Often a good option for Founder's Edition cards, with relatively quick shipping. Inventory varies by region.
  • Newegg: Offers the broadest selection of AIB (third-party manufacturer) cards. Also sells bundle deals which might have better availability. Buy directly from Newegg, not marketplace vendors, to ensure warranty coverage.
  • Nvidia Store: Founder's Edition cards are usually scarce here. Consider registering for notifications.
  • Amazon: Difficult to navigate; prioritize purchases directly from Amazon, avoiding marketplace sellers.
  • Adorama & B&H Photo: Carry AIB cards and pre-built PCs, but shipping times may be longer.
  • Micro Center: Best bet for in-store pickup if you're nearby; expect significant lines.

Review Summary:

The RTX 50-series prioritizes AI features (DLSS 4) over raw rasterization performance. While offering a performance increase, the generational leap is smaller than previous iterations. DLSS 4 significantly boosts frame rates in compatible games.
