By PatrickJan 23,2025

Get ready, Pokémon GO trainers! January's first week is almost over, and the next Spotlight Hour event is just around the corner – this Tuesday! With numerous events already underway, now's the time to stock up on Poké Balls and Berries.

Pokémon GO consistently delivers exciting monthly events, including Max Mondays, Community Days, and the ever-popular weekly Spotlight Hours, each featuring a specific Pokémon with a chance to snag a Shiny version. Here's the lowdown on this week's event.

Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour

Mark your calendars! The Spotlight Hour runs Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. This week's featured Pokémon are Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb, doubling your chances for Shiny encounters! Both offer significant combat advantages, particularly when extra damage is needed.

With two Pokémon in the spotlight, prepare ample Poké Balls, Berries, and Incense. You'll be catching double the usual amount, so having plenty of storage space is crucial to avoid interruptions during the event. These items significantly boost your chances of catching Shiny Pokémon and powering them up.

Voltorb (#100 in the Pokédex), a Kanto region Pokémon, is tradeable and transferable to Pokémon HOME. Catching it yields 3 Candies and 100 Stardust. It evolves into Electrode using 50 Candies. Boasting a max CP of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, Voltorb packs a punch in a pinch.

Remember, Voltorb is Electric-type, meaning it's vulnerable to Ground-type attacks (160% damage) but resists Electric, Flying, and Steel-type attacks (63% damage). The optimal moveset is Spark (Electric) and Discharge (Electric), delivering 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO. Rainy weather boosts its attack power. A blue Shiny Voltorb awaits discovery.

Hisuian Voltorb, also #100 in the Pokédex, shares Voltorb's family and stats (max CP 1141, 111 Defense, 109 Attack), tradeability, and transferability to Pokémon HOME. It also evolves into Hisuian Electrode with 50 Candies, rewarding 3 Candies and 100 Stardust per catch. Despite being Electric-type, its strengths and weaknesses differ slightly from Voltorb. It takes increased damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison-type attacks (160% damage), but resists Grass, Steel, and Water-type attacks (63% damage), and Electric-type attacks (39% damage). Its best moveset is Tackle (Normal) and Thunderbolt (Electric), offering 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO. Partly Cloudy and Rainy weather conditions enhance its damage output. Look for the Shiny variant with its distinctive black body.
