This scarcity has led to an unusual sight: people camping outside a Micro Center store in Tustin, California, days before the launch. Images circulating on Reddit and the Unofficial Micro Center Discord server show multiple tents, sparking debate about whether these individuals are genuine buyers or scalpers aiming for a quick profit.
One camper, interviewed on Reddit, confirmed they are purchasing for personal use and not resale. They stated they own a business and have the time to wait, preferring to avoid inflated aftermarket prices. Reports indicate approximately 24 people are currently waiting, spread across ten tents.
Micro Center, in a YouTube video, discouraged this camping, citing the inclement January weather. The company will utilize a voucher system to manage purchases on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers will not be able to choose specific GPU models, and only one card per person will be allowed. While discouraging camping, Micro Center advises early arrival to secure a purchase.
