Paradox Interactive has officially unveiled Europa Universalis 5 as its next grand strategy title, confirming speculations sparked by last week’s teaser.
The studio behind hits like Cities: Skylines, Crusader Kings, and Stellaris revealed its ambitious sequel through an expansive cinematic trailer. Developed by Paradox Tinto in Barcelona—the team behind recent Europa Universalis 4 updates—the game currently lacks a release date but already has a live Steam page.
"Test your strategic mastery across five centuries of history in Europa Universalis 5, the newest installment of the acclaimed grand strategy series," Paradox states. "Dominate warfare, commerce, statecraft, and governance in the most expansive and intricately crafted Europa Universalis experience to date. Shape the fate of countless nations within a dynamically simulated world of unprecedented depth."
Paradox Tinto has spent over five years developing Europa Universalis 5, prioritizing feedback from dedicated fans. The team incorporated "over a year of community input" to create what it describes as "the franchise’s most comprehensive historical simulation."
The game’s campaign begins in 1337 during the onset of the Hundred Years' War. Players will encounter enhanced mechanics including a vast, projection-accurate map featuring hundreds of distinct societies. New systems like population dynamics, overhauled production chains, and regional trade networks allow for deeper nation-building through agriculture, industry, and diplomacy.
This evolution aims to deliver unprecedented strategic freedom while preserving the series' authenticity. Last week’s teaser hinted at an ambitious project, though dedicated fans had already pieced together clues about the sequel.
