Palworld developer Pocketpair is finalizing its highly anticipated cross-play update, slated for release in late March 2025. A recent X/Twitter post confirmed this update will enable multiplayer across all platforms and introduce world transfer for Pals. While specifics remain scarce, a promotional image depicts a thrilling battle between numerous Palworld characters and a colossal Pal.
This news is a boon for the 32 million players who've embraced Palworld since its January 2024 early access launch. Pocketpair has unveiled an extensive 2025 content roadmap, including the cross-play feature, a concluding scenario, and additional content for this immensely popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld's successful launch—a $30 Steam release and simultaneous inclusion in Xbox and PC Game Pass—shattered sales and concurrent player records. Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe revealed that the game's initial success was so overwhelming that the developer struggled to manage the resulting profits. Despite this, Pocketpair swiftly capitalized on Palworld's breakout success by forming a new business entity, Palworld Entertainment, in partnership with Sony. This venture aims to expand the IP and bring the game to the PS5.
However, a looming legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company casts a shadow. They are seeking an injunction and damages, alleging Palworld infringes on multiple patent rights. Pocketpair has responded by identifying the patents in question and modifying the Pal summoning mechanic within the game. The developer remains steadfast in its intention to defend its position, stating, “We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings.”
