Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom has treated fans to fresh gameplay footage of its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, not only highlighted impressive sword combat and formidable enemies but also confirmed the legendary Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.
The trailer emphasizes Musashi's unparalleled swordsmanship, while also showcasing a more playful and comedic side to his personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late Toshiro Mifune, a renowned Japanese actor known for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
