Nintendo Launches Virtual Game Card System

By GabrielDec 25,2025

Nintendo's new Virtual Game Card feature has launched with the latest Switch system update. Players now have the ability to conceal purchased games from public view on their account.

As demonstrated by an X/Twitter user, Virtual Game Cards can be hidden from your collection on Nintendo's online portal. This prevents others from seeing certain titles in your library for whatever privacy reasons you may have.

During our testing, we successfully hid titles like Suikoden I&II HD Remaster and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While installed games still appear in the console's home menu, they disappear from the account's purchase history once uninstalled.

The new Virtual Game Card system launches ahead of Switch 2's anticipated release.

Currently, hidden games can be accessed through the "Redownload Software" section, but require visiting "Can't Find Software?" and logging into your Nintendo account for full visibility. The Nintendo website similarly stores hidden games behind this secondary menu option.

While this method provides some privacy for sensitive titles, the process remains somewhat inconvenient. Players must unhide and reinstall games to play them again. Our testing also showed that gameplay activity for hidden titles still appeared in play history when launched.

The feature could serve as a basic parental control for shared consoles - perhaps keeping mature-rated games like Mortal Kombat or Doom discreet. It may also appeal to players who want to maintain certain privacy about their game library in social settings.

This update also introduces redesigned icons, prepares the system transfer feature for Switch 2, and closes a popular game-sharing exploit. For complete details about Nintendo's latest firmware changes, check our full coverage of the Switch system update.
