Major retailers including Walmart, Best Buy, Target, GameStop, and the official Nintendo Store have all released details about their preorder schedules and options. Walmart: Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders
Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 at Walmart will go live at midnight Eastern Time on April 24. While there’s no mention of in-store preordering, Walmart stands out by offering free delivery by 9:00 a.m. on launch day, June 5, giving players the fastest access possible from an online retailer.
Best Buy: Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders
Best Buy will also open its online preorder portal at 12:00 a.m. ET on April 24. If you choose in-store pickup, most Best Buy locations will open at midnight on June 5 so you can get your new console right at launch.
Target: Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders
At Target, online preorders for the Switch 2 will start at 12:00 a.m. ET on April 24. There is currently no official information regarding in-store preorder availability.
GameStop: Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders
GameStop will start taking online preorders at 11:00 a.m. ET on April 24—later than other major retailers. However, if you prefer to preorder in person, you can do so at local GameStop stores starting when they open on April 24. All GameStop locations will also open at midnight on June 5 for early console pickups.
Nintendo Store: Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders
The official Nintendo Store offers a slightly different preorder process. Interested buyers must first visit the [Nintendo Switch 2 interest registration page](#), log into their Nintendo account, and select either the standalone console or a bundle with Mario Kart World. After registering, you’ll receive an email invitation when it’s your turn to complete the purchase. The first wave of invitations will be sent on May 8, and you'll have 72 hours to finalize your order once you receive the email.
There are some eligibility requirements for this method: You must be a customer who has purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with at least 12 months of paid service and accumulated a minimum of 50 gameplay hours by April 2, 2025. If you don’t meet these criteria, you’ll need to preorder through one of the participating retailers instead.
