Nexon has announced the discontinuation of the global version of KartRider: Drift, a mobile, console, and PC game launched in January 2023. The global shutdown will occur later this year across all platforms.
Asian Servers Remain Operational
The good news is that the Asian servers (Taiwan and South Korea) will continue to operate. However, Nexon plans to revamp the Asian version, though specifics regarding these changes haven't been revealed. There's also no word on a potential relaunch of the global version.
Timing of the Global Shutdown
Nexon hasn't provided a precise date for the global shutdown. The game is currently still available on the Google Play Store, allowing players to enjoy it before its closure later this year.
Reasons Behind the Shutdown
Despite efforts to provide a seamless global experience, KartRider: Drift faced challenges. Player feedback highlighted frustration with excessive automation, leading to repetitive gameplay. Technical issues, such as poor optimization on some Android devices and numerous bugs, further hampered the game's success. These factors prompted Nexon to reassess its strategy, resulting in the global shutdown. The company is now refocusing its efforts on the PC version in Korea and Taiwan, aiming to revitalize the game's original concept.
