Netflix Games Cuts Six Indie Titles Including Don

Netflix recently made significant changes to its gaming lineup, removing six previously announced mobile titles. This unexpected shift impacts several anticipated games, including Don't Starve Together, Tales of the Shire, Compass Point: West, Lab Rat, Rotwood, and Thirsty Suitors.

Six Games Removed from Netflix's Mobile Gaming Platform

The streaming service's decision to drop these games reflects a strategic adjustment in its gaming portfolio. Netflix appears to be prioritizing narrative-driven games and titles based on its popular shows and movies, shifting away from its earlier focus on indie games. This isn't the first time Netflix has canceled games after initial announcements; Crashlands 2 faced a similar fate.

Where to Find the Removed Games:

While disappointing for Netflix subscribers, most of the removed games are still planned for release on other platforms:

  • Don't Starve Together: Initially slated for a Netflix mobile release, it's now heading to mobile via Playdigious.
  • Rotwood: Remains in early access on Steam.
  • Tales of the Shire: Delayed until early 2025, but its Netflix release is unlikely.
  • Lab Rat: No current alternative release platform information is available.
  • Compass Point: West: Developed by Netflix-owned Next Games, its cancellation is particularly surprising.
  • Thirsty Suitors: Available on Steam and consoles.

This strategic shift is further emphasized by Netflix's focus on Netflix Stories, which will feature adaptations of popular shows like Ginny & Georgia and Sweet Magnolias. The removal of the six games suggests a move towards a more curated and IP-driven mobile gaming strategy. The Netflix Games logo has been removed from their website, further confirming these cancellations. For a current list of available Netflix games, check the Google Play Store.
