By NicholasFeb 22,2025

Hasbro and Legendary Entertainment are teaming up to bring the popular trading card game, Magic: The Gathering, to the big and small screens. This ambitious project will encompass both movies and television series, with the film adaptation taking precedence.

Legendary Entertainment, known for producing successful franchises like Dune, the Godzilla films (including Godzilla vs. Kong), and Detective Pikachu, will spearhead this endeavor. Their chairman of worldwide production emphasized their commitment to carefully developing beloved intellectual properties, highlighting Magic: The Gathering's perfect fit for this approach.

PlayThe relationship between this new Legendary project and the previously announced Netflix animated Magic: The Gathering series remains unclear. The report suggests they may be separate entities, though a shift in plans could potentially integrate the animated series into this larger, shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, originally conceived by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has evolved into a global phenomenon. Since Hasbro's acquisition of Wizards of the Coast in 1999, the company has a proven track record of adapting its properties into successful film franchises, including G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons. This new Magic: The Gathering adaptation joins a robust pipeline of upcoming Hasbro projects, including new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers movie, and even a Beyblade film.
