The Minecraft Campfire, introduced in version 1.14, is a versatile block often used decoratively, but boasting several hidden functionalities. It can damage mobs and players, create smoke signals, cook food, and even pacify bees. This guide details the methods for extinguishing a Campfire, unlocking its full potential.

How To Extinguish a Campfire in Minecraft

Three methods exist for extinguishing Campfires:

  • Water Bucket: The simplest method involves using a water bucket to douse the flames. Simply pour water onto the Campfire block.
  • Splash Water Potion: A Splash Water Potion, thrown onto the fire, will also extinguish it. Note that this requires gunpowder and glass, making it less efficient in the early game.
  • Shovel: The most cost-effective and often overlooked method is using a shovel (any type). Right-click (or use the left trigger on consoles) the Campfire with the shovel to extinguish it.

How To Obtain a Campfire in Minecraft

Acquiring a Campfire can be achieved in several ways:

  • Natural Generation: Campfires naturally spawn in Taiga and Snowy Taiga villages, and within camps found in Ancient Cities. To retrieve a pre-placed Campfire, a tool enchanted with Silk Touch is required; otherwise, only coal will drop (two in Java Edition, four in Bedrock Edition).
  • Crafting: A Campfire is easily crafted using sticks, wood, and either charcoal or soul sand. The latter ingredient determines whether a regular or soul fire Campfire is created.
  • Trading: Apprentice fishermen will trade Campfires for emeralds (five in Bedrock Edition, two in Java Edition).
