Marvel Rivals: Wong's Potential Appearance Sparks Fan Speculation

A recently released trailer for Marvel Rivals' new Sanctum Sanctorum map has ignited speculation among players about the potential addition of Wong to the game's roster. A brief glimpse of a painting depicting Doctor Strange's mystical ally, Wong, has been interpreted as an Easter egg hinting at his future inclusion.

This follows the game's incredibly successful launch, boasting over 10 million players within its first 72 hours. The anticipation for new playable characters and maps is high, with Season 1, "Eternal Night," set to launch on January 10th.

Season 1 will feature Dracula as the main antagonist, leading to speculation about the inclusion of other supernatural Marvel characters. The Fantastic Four's arrival has already been confirmed, along with alternate skins for Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman as the Maker and Malice.

The Wong painting, however, has captivated the attention of the Marvel Rivals community (as highlighted by Reddit user fugo_hate on r/marvelrivals). While it could simply be a tribute to Doctor Strange's companion, the possibility of a playable Wong, with his unique magic-based abilities, has sparked considerable excitement.

Wong's Growing Popularity:

Wong's popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, largely due to Benedict Wong's acclaimed portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's previously appeared in various Marvel games, including Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (non-playable), Marvel Contest of Champions, Marvel Snap, and LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 (playable).

The Sanctum Sanctorum map itself is brimming with references to the supernatural side of the Marvel universe, making the Wong painting's inclusion a fitting detail. The launch of Season 1: Eternal Night is imminent, promising new locations, the Doom Match mode, and the arrival of Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman as playable characters on January 10th. The question remains: will Wong join them?
