Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Opening Weekend Success

250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has soared to over 250,000 concurrent Steam players as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra shared on Twitter (X) that the game reached a peak of 256,206 players. Since its launch, KCD2 has consistently shattered its concurrent player record daily from February 4 to February 9.

  • February 4 - 159,351 concurrent Steam players
  • February 5 - 176,285 concurrent Steam players
  • February 6 - 185,582 concurrent Steam players
  • February 7 - 190,194 concurrent Steam players
  • February 8 - 233,586 concurrent Steam players
  • February 9 - 256,206 concurrent Steam players

Various reports suggest that the game has sold around 890,000 copies on Steam alone. Currently, KCD2 ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, just behind Counter-Strike 2, and is the 5th most-played game, following CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.

KCD2 achieved 1 million sales at launch, and with the current Steam sales estimates, the game is poised to approach 2 million copies sold.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Attention To Detail

The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be largely attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing immersion and enjoyment for players. The series is renowned for its commitment to realism, from food spoiling over time to the necessity of cleaning clothes and armor and maintaining the sharpness of swords. KCD2 builds on this foundation by introducing new features that further immerse players in a 15th-century medieval setting.

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner highlighted a new stealth mechanic to GamesRadar, explaining that as players accumulate dirt and grime, they can acquire a debuff that affects their stealth. "If you get the debuff, your body odor becomes noticeable. There's a circle around you," Bittner noted. He added, "You're basically broadcasting your presence."

The game also introduces a new weapon type, "handgonnes," providing a historically accurate depiction of early firearms. Bittner shared with PC Gamer that these early guns were challenging to use, with long reload times, poor accuracy, and safety issues for the user. He admitted, "We knew it would become a meme weapon, but we were okay with it."

KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy, stating, "We aim to create an engaging, cool, fun, and enjoyable video game. However, we strive to make it as authentic as possible, ensuring that when players engage with it, or when it's scrutinized, the elements we include are at least plausible."

Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios has outlined a comprehensive post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged beyond the initial release. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content throughout 2025.

Free updates planned for Spring 2025 include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing. Paid DLCs will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.

With its remarkable opening weekend success, KCD2 is set to continue its commercial triumph with these updates and future DLCs, potentially breaking more records along the way.
