The latest Nintendo Partner Direct unveiled a fresh trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, concluding with an enigmatic scene that sparked fervent speculation among Zelda enthusiasts about potential roster implications.
Deep within a cavernous chamber shown at the trailer's climax, what appears to be a Tears of the Kingdom-style Construct undergoes assembly and activation. While these mechanical beings weren't unprecedented - appearing throughout Tears of the Kingdom as creations of Mineru during the Imprisoning War era - this particular model stands out. Unlike previous boxier designs, including Mineru's own construct, this one boasts notably human-like proportions.
This discovery fuels passionate theories among fans, with many anticipating a playable mechanized Link. The chronological puzzle remains - Link shouldn't exist during this ancient conflict. Yet excluding gaming's most famous hero from a Zelda title seems equally implausible. Some theorize temporal manipulation similar to Age of Calamity, while others suggest Link might inhabit one of Mineru's humanoid constructs.

However, an intriguing musical cue suggests alternative possibilities. The teaser features Fi's Theme from Skyward Sword, prompting speculation about the long-absent spirit's return. With Zelda discovering the Master Sword's remnants early in the ancient era, some posit Fi might manifest through reconstructed sword fragments.
Of course, Age of Calamity demonstrated Nintendo's penchant for narrative surprises. While anticipation builds for definitive answers, fans will need patience until winter's Nintendo Switch 2 release. For complete Partner Direct coverage, visit Nintendo's official channels.
