League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes

Hextech Chests Make a Comeback

In a recent developer update released on February 27, 2025, Riot Games announced the return of Hextech Chests in response to player feedback. The update was detailed on their official website and further discussed in a video on their YouTube channel.

Riot Games acknowledged that their recent changes missed the mark, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."

The community's attachment to Hextech Chests was particularly evident. Riot explained, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."

Starting with patch 25.05, players will be able to earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act, with 8 available through the free pass and 2 additional ones obtainable via the Honor system.

Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and Further Adjustments

Riot Games also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, along with the entire Exalted skin line. The team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy," which means fans won't see one in every Act this year as initially planned.

In response to more fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing the community's concerns about the scarcity of Mythic Essence in the paid Pass and the frequency of new champions for each seasonal theme.

Additionally, to enhance accessibility, Riot Games will lower the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting from patch 25.05, following discussions about blue essence and champion shards.

Clash events will also revert to a monthly schedule, with March’s event featuring ARURF and a standard Summoner's Rift Clash planned for April.

Return of Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop

In another nod to community requests, LoL will bring back the beloved Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop is scheduled to return in patch 25.06, followed by the Emporium in patch 25.07.

Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
