Netflix generated major buzz at Anime Expo 2025 with a wave of announcements, yet the most surprising reveal may be that half of its global subscriber base enjoys anime.
The streaming giant mentioned these figures in a post shared during the weekend's Anime Expo festivities. Among the upcoming series highlighted—such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, Sakamoto Days, and Dan Da Dan—Netflix noted that over 50% of its members engage with anime content in some form. While this isn’t a detailed analysis, it remains a remarkable statistic, to say the least.
Although the company's exact current subscriber count isn't public, we do know that Netflix previously announced crossing the 300 million member threshold when it introduced a price increase this past January. This suggests that roughly 150 million Netflix users regularly watch both new and classic anime series as the platform continues to invest in this popular animation genre.
These findings align with a recent Dentsu survey (reported by Variety) that polled 8,600 consumers across 10 countries, revealing that 48% of Netflix subscribers identify as anime enthusiasts. Such figures are impressive for any streaming service—the same study noted that 32% of Disney+ viewers and 29% of Amazon Prime Video subscribers also consume anime. Additionally, Dentsu found that 31% of global audiences follow at least one anime series weekly, with Netflix dominating the U.S. market where 63% of its user base watches anime.
Over the past decade, Netflix has steadily expanded its investment in anime production. Video game adaptations have been especially successful, with standout series including Castlevania, Devil May Cry, The Witcher, and Cyberpunk 2077. Original titles such as Beastars, Devilman Crybaby, and Pluto have also debuted during this time, each catering to diverse viewer preferences.
At Anime Expo 2025, Netflix reaffirmed its commitment to growing its anime library. Dan Da Dan Season 2 is currently releasing weekly episodes, while new installments of Leviathan, Sakamoto Days, and My Melody & Kuromi are scheduled to debut before month's end. Subscribers also received confirmation that more Record of Ragnarok episodes will arrive this December, followed by Beastars Final Season Part 2 in 2026 and the highly anticipated Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 at a later date.
