The long-running GTA 6 mapping project has shifted into high gear following the release of Trailer 2, with one of its key members, Garza, telling IGN: "It really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord community is abuzz as its 370 members—soon to surpass 400—are diving deep into the new details provided by Trailer 2.
"It's an information overload—it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza, who oversees the Discord server, emphasized to IGN. "We have so much new content to work on, and we’re really just getting started."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord project kicked off in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, which some fans believe were humorously referenced at the beginning of Trailer 2. The project's aim has been to construct the most accurate GTA 6 map possible, relying on the leaks and the information from December 2023's Trailer 1 until now. The latest map version, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, has quickly become outdated due to the wealth of new details from Trailer 2.

Beyond confirming plot details and characters, and releasing 70 new GTA 6 screenshots, Rockstar has unveiled new information and images of the explorable areas within the state of Leonida, their fictional version of Florida. Confirmed locations from this week's reveal include Vice City, mirroring Miami, the tropical Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a notable landmark along the northern border of the state.
The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of everything depicted, striving to match the fictional spaces with their real-world inspirations. Once their efforts are complete, DuPz0r plans to release an updated map, which fans eagerly anticipate as their clearest preview yet of what GTA 6 will offer upon its release in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release further GTA 6 assets or gameplay footage in the interim, the volunteers will continue their efforts. Only upon the game's release will they be able to compare their fan-created map to the actual game and assess the accuracy of their work.

However, looming over the GTA 6 mapping project is the risk of intervention by Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. In March, a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to halt their project after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. This mod was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.
Last year, when asked by IGN about potential legal actions from Take-Two, Garza admitted to "some mild concern." He elaborated, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
