The iconic Master Chief, star of the Halo franchise and a popular Fortnite skin, recently returned to the item shop after a two-year hiatus, much to the delight of fans. However, this comeback wasn't without controversy.
The original release of the Master Chief skin included a special Matte Black style, exclusively awarded to players on Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as permanently obtainable. The subsequent announcement of its removal, therefore, caused significant backlash.
Player outrage escalated, with some even considering legal action, including a potential class-action lawsuit, citing potential legal violations. Fortunately, Epic Games swiftly reversed its decision within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single match on an Xbox Series S|X console.
This reversal appears to be the most sensible outcome, especially considering the holiday season. Such a move would likely have soured the festive cheer for many players.
