Formovie Episode One Review: A Projector's Paradise?

By AudreyDec 06,2025

At Droid Gamers, we regularly test various gaming gear, but a projector is definitely a fresh addition. The Formovie Episode One projector stood out for its ability to showcase mobile games on a larger screen—making it an intriguing piece of tech to review.

Positioned as a budget-friendly option in a typically expensive market, the Episode One largely delivers on its promise—and then some. Though not without a few caveats.

The package includes the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. It has a decent weight to it, though it doesn’t feel as heavy-duty as premium projectors.

That said, its lightweight design (just three pounds) makes it highly portable—easy to take on the go.

Port selection is minimal, with just one USB-A, one HDMI, and a single audio jack. This is understandable for the price point, and should suffice for most users.

Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own given its cost. With 150 ISO lumens, it’s certainly not the brightest laser projector on the market.

Our tests found it struggled in direct sunlight, though it performed well in dim settings—no surprise there, but still worth noting.

Movies, TV shows, and even streamed games all rendered clearly. For optimal image quality, we found the projector worked best at a distance of at least 10 feet. Sound quality was passable, though far from exceptional.

The built-in speaker sounds a bit thin, so pairing it with external speakers is highly recommended for an improved experience.

On the software side, the UI is refreshingly simple—cleaner and easier to navigate than some high-end models we've tested.

Overall, the Formovie Episode One is a solid entry-level projector. It won't blow you away in any single category but offers reliable performance at an accessible price—perfect for casual users.

For a limited time (until May 27th), purchasing an Episode One includes a Netflix gift card worth $15/€15. Click here to learn more.
