During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we were treated to exciting new details about the game's innovative Free Roam mode. This mode promises a highly engaging multiplayer experience, allowing players to explore the expansive world of Mario Kart World in a whole new way.
Although we had the opportunity to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive look at the Free Roam mode. This feature introduces a vast, Forza Horizon-like world map where players can drive freely, unlike the traditional Mario Kart games where race tracks are isolated and only accessible during races. In Mario Kart World, tracks are seamlessly integrated into the open world, enabling players to navigate from one track to another in specific game modes and enjoy the open spaces in between. When not engaged in races, Free Roam mode offers a delightful adventure. The world is filled with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though the exact benefits of collecting these items remain a mystery for now. Additionally, scattered P-Switches present small challenges, like collecting blue coins, adding an extra layer of fun to exploration.
One of the standout features of Free Roam is the Photo Mode, which allows players to capture their racers in various poses and angles at any time. This mode isn't limited to solo play; it supports multiplayer as well. You and your friends can roam together, take photos, tackle challenges, or simply enjoy each other's company. Free Roam accommodates up to four players on the same system via split-screen, and up to eight players via local wireless play, with two players per system.
