IDW Publishing has announced "Event Horizon: Dark Descent," a five-issue comic book series that will delve into the events leading up to the film and uncover the true fate of the original crew aboard the Event Horizon spacecraft.

"Dark Descent" is penned by Christian Ward ("Batman: City of Madness") and illustrated by Tristan Jones ("Aliens: Defiance"), with colors by Pip Martin ("That Texas Blood") and cover art contributions from Ward, Jeffrey Alan Love, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson.

Here is IDW's official synopsis for "Event Horizon: Dark Descent":

Embracing the film's hard-R rating, "EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT #1" (the first of five issues) will blast into comic shops this August. Set before the movie's events and fully accessible to new readers, this series reveals the harrowing final chapter of the Event Horizon's original crew. Discover the true horrors that befell Captain Kilpack and his team as their ship navigated a nightmarish dimension of unimaginable torment. Abandon all hope as demonic forces, commanded by Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell, unleash pure agony and evil upon the crew in a gripping narrative.

“It's a tremendous honor to be entrusted with such a beloved film, a responsibility I take very seriously. I have some truly exciting plans in store," Ward stated. "Expect bold, visceral storytelling that will forever change how you view the original movie.”

“Christian's expansions to the lore are going to surprise audiences," Jones added. "His vision provides incredibly gritty and intense material for me to visualize, which is always thrilling. Knowing we're collaborating directly with the film's creative team ensures this will be an essential exploration for dedicated fans.”
