Instead of passively awaiting the release of the co-op spin-off, Nightreign, chickensandwich420 devised a demanding self-challenge: defeating Messmer the Impaler daily on NG+7, employing a different weapon each time and achieving a flawless no-hit victory. This undertaking began December 16, 2024. Initially planning a broader FromSoftware boss challenge, time constraints due to university studies led to this focused endeavor.
Messmer, the notoriously difficult second antagonist of Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, presents a significant hurdle. Players report needing 30 to over 150 attempts to defeat him, even with optimal gear. chickensandwich420's challenge is undeniably ambitious.
A June deadline is in place. If Nightreign doesn't release by then, the challenge expands to other games. This sets a potential limit of over 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's on day 23.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, announced at The Game Awards 2024, is a standalone three-player co-op adventure within the Elden Ring universe.
