In *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, like its predecessors, you'll carve a path through ancient China, battling alongside various warlords. But eventually, a crucial decision awaits: choosing your allegiance. Here's how faction selection works.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins: Understanding Factions
*Dynasty Warriors: Origins* unfolds in chapters. The first two chapters feature the Wanderer, your character, acting as a neutral party. You'll assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei, participating in key events such as the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate.
Chapter 3 marks a turning point. You'll be prompted to choose a faction. Before making your decision, the game provides opportunities to learn more about each warlord through additional battles.
To ally with a faction, complete a specific number of missions: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Upon completion, a new mission will appear, forcing you to choose an alliance. Only factions with completed missions will be selectable. For example, completing Cao Cao's missions first will limit your choice in the following battle to either Cao Cao or Liu Bei (Liu Bei being unavailable until his missions are also completed). You can, of course, complete all faction missions before making your final choice.
Your choice is permanent. Once you ally with a faction, the others become unavailable for the rest of the game. You'll lose access to side quests from the unchosen factions, and your bond with their officers will remain stagnant. This can impact gameplay difficulty; for instance, allying with Liu Bei, whose faction initially has fewer commanding officers, might limit early skill point acquisition opportunities.
Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* has to offer, consider creating a save before selecting a kingdom, allowing you to replay the game with different allegiances.
That's how to choose your faction in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
