In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, there's no direct sprint button; your character naturally accelerates into a sprint after a few steps. While sprinting is great for quick movement, traversing the expansive battlefields to reach other officers swiftly and effectively can be challenging. This is where your horse becomes invaluable, allowing you to summon it anytime in the overworld or during battle. It even enables you to engage in swift hit-and-run tactics. Let's dive into how you can unlock your first horse, level it up, and switch between different horses.
How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Unlocking your first horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is straightforward and comes at no cost. During Chapter 1, after completing the "Test Of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld as you head towards the Battle Of Guangzong. You'll find him standing next to his horse northeast of Wan Castle, but before reaching the camp. Simply engage in conversation with him, and he'll gift you your first horse, which will be automatically equipped.
Summoning your horse is easy; press down on the left joystick if you're on a console, or hit the 'V' key if you're using a keyboard.
How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your horse gains XP every time you complete a mission or a main story battle while it's equipped, regardless of whether you actively use it. However, your horse won't earn XP from Skirmishes. Missions, marked by a red diamond with a soldier icon, are your best bet for medium-length engagements that help level up your horse. The amount of XP earned depends on the battle's duration, how much you ride, and how often you charge into enemies. As your horse levels up, it unlocks unique buffs at various milestones, which vary from one horse to another.
How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
While your first horse is automatically equipped, Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers you the chance to acquire and switch to different horses. You can manage your horses in the Battle Preparation menu, found as the final option on the left side of the screen. Each horse comes with distinct perks, and some are naturally faster and more advantageous than others, making it worthwhile to switch when you acquire a new one. To obtain new horses, you must raise a region's peace to its maximum level, after which a new horse will be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
