In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer on his peace-seeking journey. This narrative offers significant choices, and regardless of your decisions, companions will often join you in battle.
These companions fight alongside you, but you can occasionally control them. They're exceptionally powerful, often surpassing the Wanderer in combat effectiveness, even with his upgrades. Here's how to switch characters:
How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Character switching is only possible during battles where you have a companion. Before a battle, the war council menu offers your companion as a final option. You can choose to fight alone, but companion switching isn't available then. Once combat begins, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right corner.
Below their health bar is a blue gauge, similar to your Musou gauge. This fills as you fight, accelerating with:
- Parrying attacks
- Perfect dodges
- Assaulting Officers
- Utilizing Weapon Arts
Most combat actions contribute to filling this gauge, albeit at varying speeds.
A "Change Character" button appears next to the companion's blue gauge once it's full. Press and hold this button for roughly a second to switch. This is the View button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.
Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Switching characters is strategically best during intense battles. Companions are incredibly strong, and control is usually limited to about a minute. The blue gauge, which enabled the switch, gradually depletes, showing remaining control time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and a range of potent combat arts.
Switching initiates a powerful attack from your new character; aim carefully. Your companion retains their own Musou gauge and health bar, already full, allowing immediate use of their special attack.
