Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Manly Drama and Comedic Mayhem
RGG Studio promises a unique blend of serious storytelling and over-the-top humor in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment features a "more serious" Goro Majima, according to director Masayoshi Yokoyama, particularly at the story's outset.
However, the signature Like a Dragon humor isn't absent. Producer Ryosuke Horii emphasizes a core "manly drama," highlighting Majima's pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forms along the way. While acknowledging the game's outlandish elements, Horii describes the narrative as a straightforward tale of a passionate man. He further explains that Majima offers a unique dynamic unavailable with the series' usual protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, necessitating a heightened sense of unreality to showcase his character fully. The goal was to balance the "pirate-ness, Majima-ness, and 'Ryu ga Gotoku'-ness" for a rich and varied experience.
The developers aimed for a compelling balance between realism and extravagance, avoiding a dull or predictable experience. They strived for a wilder gameplay style while maintaining a serious and engaging narrative.
Majima's Maji Festival: A Japanese Celebration
To celebrate the game's launch, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival in six Japanese cities. The tour, which began in Sapporo on December 1st, 2024, concludes with events in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, starring the "Mad Dog of Shimano," promises exciting action combat, thrilling naval battles, a vibrant cast, and a captivating story. It launches on February 21st for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
