How difficult will it be to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch and throughout 2025? Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser asserts the company expects to meet consumer demand "through the holiday season" with sufficient stock.
In an interview with IGN regarding the new Nintendo San Francisco store opening, Bowser stated that while the Switch 2 has received an enthusiastic response, Nintendo has implemented a strategy to maintain "consistent inventory availability" through 2025. The console launches June 5.
"[Nintendo President] Shuntaro Furukawa recently announced our production forecast of 15 million Switch 2 units and 4.5 million original Switch units for this fiscal year," Bowser explained. "This projection aligns with what we achieved during the Switch's first 10 months in market. For the U.S., we're confident our production and distribution plans will satisfy consumer demand."
He continued: "The initial positive reception to Switch 2, reflected in strong preorder numbers, has been encouraging. We've structured our supply chain to ensure sustained availability throughout the holiday shopping season."
Nintendo Switch 2 Availability Outlook
This announcement brings relief for prospective buyers, following turbulent preorder experiences. After postponements caused by tariff complications, Switch 2 preorders launched April 24 at the unchanged $449.99 price point - with inventory selling rapidly.
Nintendo issued warnings to U.S. customers who preordered through the My Nintendo Store, indicating release-day deliveries might be delayed due to unprecedented demand. However, Bowser's recent assurances suggest preorder customers should eventually receive their systems.
Pricing Stability Concerns
Amidst ongoing tariff discussions, concerns have emerged regarding potential price increases for both the console and games. When pressed about maintaining the $450 MSRP long-term, Bowser offered cautious optimism.
"We established our pricing commitment by announcing both the standard $449 configuration and the $499 Mario Kart World bundle," Bowser noted. "Given the unpredictable tariff environment, we're focused on finding solutions to maintain accessibility within evolving market conditions."
